Brian Dowdy is a nationally respected K-9 expert and AMPWDA Master
Trainer with over two decades of elite law enforcement and K-9
handling experience. His journey in public safety began in 2001, and
by 2003, he had earned a place in the prestigious St. Louis
Metropolitan Police K-9 Academy, launching a distinguished career in
K-9 operations.
Early in his career, Brian gained recognition for multiple successful
apprehensions, high-value narcotics seizures, and currency recoveries
proving both his tactical skill and instinctive connection with
working dogs. Eager to deepen his knowledge, Brian graduated from the
renowned Tom Rose School of Dog Training in 2005, followed by
certifications as a Police Dog Trainer (St. Louis Metropolitan Police)
and a Detection Dog Trainer (Alpha K-9 with Randy Hare).
In 2007, Brian founded the Belleville Police K-9 Academy, where he
trained dozens of K-9 teams across Missouri and Illinois. He also
became a certified narcotics detection dog evaluator for the State of
Illinois.
Throughout his law enforcement career, Brian worked with four police
K-9s and collaborated with major agencies, including the DEA, U.S.
Marshals, FBI, and multiple state and municipal departments. At the
peak of his career, he was responsible for the maintenance training of
nearly 90 police K-9 teams throughout the metropolitan area.
Brian’s service was cut short in 2015 due to an injury sustained in
the line of duty—but not before earning two Medal of Valor awards (in
two different states) and Officer of the Year honors. His legacy
includes thousands of successful searches, arrests, and drug seizures,
as well as the mentorship of countless K-9 teams across the country.
As owner and Director of K-9 Operations at Dowdy Dawgs Security LLC,
Brian continues to lead with integrity, discipline, and a relentless
commitment to excellence. His passion for training, paired with a
lifetime of tactical experience, makes him one of the most respected
K- 9 professionals in the nation
